Biodiversity: A Call to Action
2024 - Be part of the Plan
2023 - From agreement to action
The United Nations has proclaimed May 22 as The International Day for Biological Diversity to raise awareness about the importance of biodiversity. This year's International Day for Biological Diversity is particularly significant as it marks the beginning of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030).
The theme for this year's International Day for Biological Diversity is "From Agreement to Action." This theme highlights the need to move from commitments to concrete actions to address the global biodiversity crisis. The world has agreed on a set of ambitious goals for biodiversity conservation, including the Aichi Biodiversity Targets and the Sustainable Development Goals. However, much more needs to be done to achieve these goals.
There are many ways that individuals and organizations can contribute to biodiversity conservation. These include:
- Supporting sustainable agriculture practices
- Reducing our consumption of resources
- Protecting and restoring natural habitats
- Educating ourselves and others about biodiversity
By taking action to conserve biodiversity, we can help to ensure a healthy and sustainable future for our planet.
